Navigator Technology Ventures (NTV) announced today
the closing of a Series B investment in Actuality Systems. Also participating
in the round were a group of private investors.
NTV, an affiliate of Draper Laboratory of Cambridge, MA and led by Alain
Hanover and Rana K. Gupta, is an early-stage, technology venture capital
firm that seeks to fund technology rich start-ups. With the assistance
of Draper Laboratory, NTV invests in unique, highly proprietary technologies.
NTV’s other portfolio companies are Sionex Corp. and Polychromix,
Inc.
Actuality Systems, Inc. is a pioneer in the development of spatial 3D
visualization technology. Led by CEO, Cameron Lewis, the firm intends
to solve the current 3D visualization problems facing multiple industries
by providing full color, 360 degree, spatial imaging. Thus, eliminating
the need for special goggles and rendering significantly more data than
3D presented on flat 2D screens. Gregg Favalora, CTO of Actuality Systems
and co-founder of the company, is a leading authority in 3D display technology.
Actuality Systems has begun production of its unique
Perspecta spatial 3D platform. The platform consists of the Perspecta
spatial display, which projects 3D imagery inside a 20-in transparent
dome, and the Perspecta operating environment software. Actuality Systems’
first applications will be in biotechnology, drug discovery, and proteomics.
Other applications the company will pursue are in medical imaging and
security.
”We’re excited about the Actuality platform
because it has the potential to revolutionize the way 3-D information
is viewed and manipulated. This is the first true spatial 3-D display
that doesn’t require special goggles or lenses so that a full image
can be rendered in 3-D in full color and viewed from any angle by multiple
people at once” said Alain Hanover, CEO of NTV. “Perspecta
can revolutionize industries. Imagine a biochemist ‘seeing’
the entire quantum affect of a small molecule on a protein or a Orthopedist
seeing the entire joint simultaneously or the airport security officer
seeing the entire piece of luggage width and depth, top and bottom that’s
the difference using Perspecta” added Mr. Hanover.
The Perspecta spatial 3D platform (available for LINUX
or NT) is priced from US$40,000 per station including the Perspecta OS
and Perspecta display. The Perspecta SDK is available free online. More
